Did I say whisked? As you can see the
traffic and pollution are horrendous. This is rush hour going down
towards our hotel.
This is the view from our hotel window.
Beijing is expanding at a tremendous rate and high rise buildings
are going up everywhere. The city is expanding outwards as well.
As the city grows they just add another ring road. They are up to
6 now..........
Most of the drivers are particularly courteous,
whether this is because of the fact that they prize the ownership
of a car above all else or the fact that they fear the traffic
police is open to question.
This is the form of modernised rickshaw
that is seen everywhere, usually overloaded, but it hasn't
replaced the man powered vehicle that everyone associates with
China.
We stopped at the Jinglun Hotel located in the Embassy area of
Beijing. This is a modern 4 Star hotel with all the facilities you
would expect.
It has extremely comfortable rooms with (thankfully) Air
Conditioning, En-suite facilities but bring your own
Tea/Coffee/powdered milk for although there are facilities for
making tea they only supply Chinese style green tea bags.
The hotel is well located with many restaurants nearby, even the ubiquitous
McDonalds, a supermarket round the corner which surprisingly had
many western products and just up the street from the Friendship
store.
